Add the room's length and width in feet, and that number in inches is roughly the diameter you want: a 16ft by 14ft living room takes a chandelier around 30 inches across. For a dining room, ignore the room and size to the table instead — the fixture should be about half to two-thirds the table's width, and never wider than the table itself.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eChandelier drop and ceiling height\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eAllow two and a half to three inches of drop for every foot of ceiling height, measured from the ceiling to the lowest point of the fixture. Over a dining table, hang the base 30 to 36 inches above the tabletop. A century and a half later, those same motifs dressed the great bowl lights of Edwardian and colonial interiors, where a wide basin of metal openwork hid the bulbs and threw a soft, even light up onto the ceiling and down into the room.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis chandelier is cast in brass in that spirit. Royal courts ordered great brass and cut-glass pieces from the glassworks of England and Bohemia: tiers of curving arms, glass dishes under every candle, globes cut all over in fine diamonds, and long spear-shaped prisms that turned candlelight into sparkle across a whole room. At its heart sits a large crystal globe cut all over in a fine diamond pattern, above a brass band with a pierced lattice and a deep diamond-cut glass bowl. Hang it centred in the space, over a round centre table or a seating group, with the bottom at least 8 feet above the floor; in a double-height hall, bring it down on a longer chain to sit in the middle of the volume. The chain is cut to your ceiling, so tell us the drop you need.
