A slender brass hairpin rises from a round backplate, and around it runs a garland of seventeen polished wood beads, each finished with a small brass ball on its outer side. Below, a ribbed brass collar, worked in tight horizontal rings, holds a frosted glass globe that softens the light into an even, warm glow.

Switched off, it reads as a small sculpture on the wall: dark wood against antique brass, the rhythm of the beads, the ribbed collar catching the light. Switched on, the globe becomes a soft orb of light, at home beside a bed, along a corridor or on either side of a mirror.

What makes Mala distinctive

Wood and brass together: Polished wood beads, each capped in brass, set around an antique brass frame for warmth even when the light is off.

A soft, even glow: The frosted glass globe diffuses the bulb, so there is no glare or hot spot.

Ribbed brass collar: Tight horizontal rings of brass between two flat discs give the fitting a crafted, tactile middle.

Made to order in India: From Delhi Brass, a fourth-generation lighting and decorative metalwork company.

Materials & dimensions

Materials: Brass, wood beads, frosted glass

Finish: Antique brass

Height: 15 inches / 38.1 cm

Projection from wall: 7 inches / 17.8 cm

Width: 5.5 inches / 14 cm

Light source: One E14 bulb (not included)

Warranty: 2 years

Product code: 10843

Finding the right spot

Beside a bed, mount Mala above each bedside table so the globe sits a little above shoulder height when you are sitting up.
