Customized Lighting: Size, Shape, Material & Finish

Artisan hand-finishing a brushed-brass chandelier frame in the Delhi Brass workshop — custom made-to-order lighting

A chandelier should fit the ceiling above it. A wall sconce should sit comfortably beside a mirror. A pendant should hang at the right height over the table. At Delhi Brass, customized lighting begins with these practical details: we adapt the size, shape, material, colour and finish to your space, or develop a new light from your brief.

Our fourth-generation lighting business combines experience in decorative metal fabrication with in-house machining, assembly, painting and finishing. From one bedside light to a coordinated lighting scheme, you can work with us on chandeliers, wall sconces, hanging pendants, ceiling lights, table and floor lamps, and outdoor gate and garden lights.

Customized lighting: size, shape, height and finish

Customization can be a small adjustment to a familiar design or a complete change in form. We consider the visible proportions and the way the light is made and mounted together.

  • Size: chandelier diameter, pendant width, sconce height and projection, lamp base and shade dimensions.
  • Shape: circular, oval or linear compositions; longer arms, a different canopy, additional tiers or a revised arrangement of shades.
  • Height and drop: the fixture body and its suspension are separate dimensions. A shorter chain alone will not solve a body that is too tall for the room.
  • Material: the metal frame, decorative details, shade, diffuser or stone element can be reconsidered as part of the design.
  • Colour and finish: your preferred painted colour, polished or brushed metal, an antique effect or a patina, agreed through samples where needed.
  • Lighting details: shade direction, diffuser choice, lamp arrangement and access for maintenance, coordinated with the fixture and installation.

For a whole home, we can carry a finish and a design detail across different types of lights without making every fixture identical. A dining chandelier, corridor sconces and bedside lamps can share the same metal tone while each is sized for its setting.

Custom lighting in brass, steel, copper and more

Brass is part of our name, but our work extends well beyond it. We work with brass, stainless steel, mild steel, copper, aluminium, silver and bronze, alongside stone, wood, acrylic, glass and fabric. This breadth lets us develop combinations rather than limit a brief to one metal.

A material change is also a design decision. Changing a frame from steel to brass, introducing a stone diffuser or replacing a shade with acrylic can change the weight, thickness, joints and light effect. We review those details together rather than treating every material as an interchangeable surface.

Natural stone brings variation in veining and translucency; wood adds warmth; acrylic can create a diffused contemporary element. Explore our alabaster and stone lighting for examples of material-led design.

Choose your colour, sheen and metal finish

You can request any colour you have in mind, share a physical sample or coordinate a fixture with the room's hardware and furnishings. A deep green painted frame, warm off-white shade, matte black detail or brushed metal can each give the same form a different character. The achievable finish depends on the material and whether the light is used indoors or outdoors; we settle the colour, sheen and coating before manufacture.

Start with a catalogue light, then make it your own

The lights below are existing Delhi Brass catalogue designs. Their photographs show the listed versions; the adaptations described are options to discuss with our workshop, with the final dimensions, components and finish agreed for your order.

Custom wall lights and sconces: scale, projection and finish

Filigree Amber Double Wall Light from the Delhi Brass lighting catalogue
The catalogue wall light provides a starting point for a custom size, finish or shade treatment.

The Filigree Amber Double Wall Light combines decorative metalwork with amber glass shades. For a different room, discuss the backplate size, arm spacing, projection, glass tone and metal finish. Beside a narrow mirror, projection and width may matter more than overall height. Beside a bed, shade direction and the seated eye line become part of the brief. Browse more wall lights and sconces.

Custom chandeliers: diameter, composition and hanging height

Aurum Frond Glass Chandelier with brass canopy and suspended glass elements
Aurum Frond: discuss the canopy scale, finish and distribution of hanging elements for your ceiling.

The Aurum Frond Glass Chandelier is a useful starting point for a tall foyer or stairwell. We can discuss the canopy proportions, glass arrangement, overall drop and finish for the available volume. A wider canopy with a shallower composition and a longer cascade solve different architectural needs; the dimensions should follow the room rather than simply enlarge the photograph.

For other custom chandelier briefs, you may want a different diameter, arm count, tier arrangement or shade shape. Share the room size, ceiling height and furniture below the fitting. Our chandelier buying guide helps you prepare those measurements.

Custom pendant lights: shade size, colour and suspension

Pleated Pendant from the Delhi Brass hanging light catalogue
Pleated Pendant: a starting point for discussions about shade proportions, colour and hanging height.

The Pleated Pendant shows how much of a pendant's character comes from its shade. Discuss a different diameter, shade height, colour palette or suspension length to fit a dining area or living room. For several pendants over a counter, we consider their spacing and drop together. Explore hanging lights and pendants for more forms.

Table, floor and ceiling lights

The same approach applies to table lamps, floor lamps and other ceiling lights. A lamp may need a different base footprint, shade shape or overall height; a ceiling fitting may need a shallower profile. We check balance, fixing and component access alongside appearance.

Custom gate lights, garden lights and exterior lanterns

We also customize lighting for entrance pillars, garden paths, courtyards and exterior walls. A lantern's width should suit its pillar, while its mounting base, height and finish should belong to the surrounding architecture. A coordinated outdoor scheme can use related forms at different scales.

For gate lights and garden lights, tell us the fixing surface and whether the fitting is sheltered or directly exposed to rain. We confirm the material, protective finish, enclosure and electrical specification for that location. An indoor light should not be assumed suitable outdoors simply because its colour can be changed.

How we develop your bespoke lighting

Our strength is connecting design decisions to fabrication. In-house machining and finishing allow the workshop to consider dimensions, connections and surface treatment as one brief, with your architect or interior designer involved where appropriate.

  1. Share the brief. Send a catalogue link or reference, site photographs, measurements and your preferred materials and finish.
  2. Agree the design. We discuss the proportions and construction, then confirm dimensions and any drawings or samples needed for the commission.
  3. Approve the specification and quote. The material, finish, components, quantity and delivery requirements determine the quotation.
  4. Make, finish and check. Fabrication, assembly and finishing are coordinated with wiring and testing for the agreed fixture.
  5. Plan delivery and fitting. Packing, installation requirements and timing are confirmed for your project.

An adapted catalogue light and a completely new sculptural fixture need different amounts of development. We confirm the production and delivery window for your approved specification, including any additional time for specialist materials or components.

Frequently asked questions about custom lighting

Can I customize a light from the Delhi Brass catalogue?

Yes. Start with a catalogue design and ask us to adapt its size, shape, material, colour, finish, shade or hanging height. We confirm the design and specification before production.

Can you make a chandelier for a low or double-height ceiling?

Yes. We can discuss a shorter body and suspension for a low ceiling, or a larger composition and longer drop for a tall space. Share the ceiling height, room dimensions and required clearance so we can proportion the fixture.

Can you make lights in any colour?

You can request your preferred colour, from neutral painted finishes to a bold accent colour, or provide a physical sample to match. We agree the achievable colour, sheen and coating on the chosen material before production.

Which materials can you use for custom lighting?

We work with brass, stainless steel, mild steel, copper, aluminium, silver and bronze, as well as stone, wood, acrylic, glass and fabric. The combination is selected for the design, weight, light effect and installation location.

Do you customize gate and garden lights?

Yes. We can tailor outdoor lanterns and other exterior lights in scale, mounting arrangement, material and finish. Tell us whether the position is sheltered or exposed so we can confirm the appropriate specification.

How much does bespoke lighting cost, and how long does it take?

The quote depends on dimensions, materials, finish, components, quantity and fabrication complexity. Production and delivery timing are confirmed for your approved specification; a completely new design may require additional development time.

Discuss your custom lighting brief

Send the product link or sketch, required width and height, ceiling height or wall position, preferred material and colour, quantity and desired delivery date. A room photograph helps us understand the proportions; a physical finish sample helps when a close match matters.

International custom lighting: specification and approval

For an overseas commission, confirm the fixture dimensions, finish, mounting and electrical requirements together. Our catalogue specification examples and export guidance show the material, dimensions and light-source details to review before an order.

Electrical components can be selected for the agreed destination requirements. UL-approved components do not make a complete fixture UL Listed; any finished-fixture assessment is confirmed separately for the project. Begin with our bespoke lighting process and share your destination and specification with the team.
