Alabaster has been used to make lamps and windows since ancient Egypt and Rome, and in the churches of Italy and Spain, because the soft stone lets light pass through it. Lit from inside, it glows a warm, even honey colour, and its natural veins show up like the grain of marble.

Each globe is turned from a single piece of natural alabaster, so the pattern of creamy white stone, translucent patches and caramel-brown veins is different on every pendant. A small cylindrical cap and round ceiling canopy in antique-finish brass, joined by a slim black fabric cord, keep the design simple and let the stone lead. It comes in two sizes, 4 and 6 inches across, which can be mixed at staggered heights.

Finding the right spot

Hang a pair either side of a bed, a row of three over a kitchen island or dining table, or a cluster of both sizes at staggered heights in a stairwell, a hallway or over a side table. Over a counter or table, hang the globes about 30 to 36 inches above the top; beside a bed, about 20 inches above the bedside table. Use a warm white (2700K) bulb.

Choosing your drop

The pendant is supplied on a standard 16-inch cord. If you need it to hang lower, send us a message after placing your order with the height you need, and we will make it to that length.

Care

Switch off and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Dust the stone with a soft, dry cloth. Alabaster is a soft, natural stone: keep it away from water and do not use any cleaning products on it. Dust the brass with a dry cloth; the antique finish is meant to deepen with time.

Before you order

This pendant is made to order, and as each globe is cut from natural stone, the veining varies from piece to piece. It takes one E14 bulb, which is not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
