Outdoor lighting in three layers

Exterior lighting works best in three layers: lanterns at the gate and front door to mark the approach, wall lights along the verandah or terrace to sit and walk by, and low garden lights for paths and planting. Getting all three is what stops a house looking lit by floodlight.

Choosing an outdoor wall lantern

Beside a front door, choose a lantern about a quarter to a third of the door's height; for an 8 foot door, that is roughly 24 to 30 inches. Mount it so its centre sits about 6 to 6.5 feet above the floor, and use a pair either side of a wide entrance. For a terrace or long verandah, space smaller sconces 8 to 10 feet apart.

Finishes and where they suit

Green patina (verdigris) and dark bronze finishes look settled against plaster, stone and planting, and age gracefully outdoors. Matte black suits contemporary facades and white walls. Each product page states the exact metal and finish, so you know whether a light is cast brass, mild steel or aluminium.

Where they can go

Our outdoor lights are made for covered and semi-covered positions: verandahs, porches, gate pillars under a coping, terraces and covered courtyards. For a position fully exposed to rain, ask us about sealed fittings and exterior-grade finishes before you order.

Made in our own workshop

Because we manufacture rather than import, the size, finish and electrical components can be adjusted to your house. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
