A railing follows the real rise and run of your stair, which is why it cannot be cut from stock lengths. We measure on site, redraw the design to your flight, then forge, cast and finish it in our own workshop.

Railing design, sizes and metals
A railing is the one piece of metalwork in a house that everybody touches, so it has to be right structurally before it is right visually. These are the questions we are asked most often about staircase railing design, balcony railing design and glass balustrades in Indian homes.
What is the standard height for a staircase railing?
36 inches measured vertically from the nosing of each tread to the top of the handrail. On a balcony or terrace the minimum rises to about 42 inches, and local building rules can push it higher where the drop is significant. Where there are children in the house, balusters should be spaced so a 100mm sphere cannot pass between them.
Which metal is best for a railing: MS, stainless, brass or cast iron?
Mild steel is the most economical and the most adaptable, and powder-coats to any colour. Stainless resists rust with the least upkeep but reads colder. Brass and forged iron suit interiors and heritage work and take ornament beautifully. Cast iron carries period detail nothing else matches. Outdoors, choose galvanised or powder-coated steel over untreated iron, which will not survive many monsoons.
How much does a custom railing cost in India?
Cost is driven by the metal, the span, and how much hand ornament the design carries. A plain linear steel balustrade and a hand-forged scrollwork stair in cast bronze are different orders of magnitude. Every design here is priced on request after a site measurement, because the run of the stair sets the quantity.
Are glass railings safe on a staircase or balcony?
Yes, when specified properly. Anything load-bearing should be toughened laminated glass, set into a brass or steel channel rather than clamped at points. Laminated glass holds together if it breaks, which is what makes it appropriate above a stairwell or on a terrace.
Can you match a new railing to an existing staircase?
That is most of what we do. We measure the flight on site, draw the railing to its actual rise and run, and match the finish to the metalwork already in the house. Any design on this page can be redrawn in another metal, at another scale, or with the ornament simplified.
How long does a custom railing take?
Production takes 14–21 days from approved drawings, followed by 4–6 days for delivery. Installation is confirmed in your quotation. The drawing stage before it depends on how quickly the design is signed off.
