Brass Baby Elephant Sculpture
Made to order
Description
A large, handcrafted brass elephant sculpture: a baby elephant at rest, trunk curled and ears spread, shaped and hand-hammered in golden brass. A work of art for a foyer, living room or courtyard.
The elephant has been one of India's most loved symbols for thousands of years. Carved on temple gateways and palace walls, it stands for wisdom, strength, good fortune and a happy home, and is closely tied to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. In many Indian homes, an elephant placed near the entrance is believed to welcome prosperity and protect the household.
This sculpture shows a young elephant in a gentle, playful pose. It rests with its front legs stretched forward and its hind legs folded, its trunk curled beneath it and its large ears spread wide. The form is simplified and softly rounded, so the eye follows its curves rather than fine detail. Made by hand in our Delhi workshop from brass, its whole surface is hand-hammered, leaving a fine texture that catches the light, with deeper toning in the folds.

Where to place a brass elephant sculpture
A large brass elephant works best where it can be seen as you arrive: in an entrance foyer, beside the front door, at the foot of a staircase, or on the floor beside a console in the living room. In Vastu and feng shui traditions, an elephant facing the entrance is said to welcome good fortune. It also suits hotel lobbies, restaurants, offices and covered courtyards. Give it a plain wall or a rug around it, and let a warm lamp or spotlight fall across it to bring out the hammered texture.
Care
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Brass naturally darkens over time; to keep the bright golden finish, buff it occasionally with a soft cloth, or let it age to a deeper, warmer tone. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemical cleaners. Keep it indoors or under cover.
Ordering and commissions
Each elephant is made by hand to order, so small variations in the hammered texture make every piece one of a kind. The size, pose and finish can be adapted, and we also make pairs and other animal sculptures on commission.
