Scrolling ironwork has decorated balconies, gates and wall brackets from Baroque Europe to the havelis of Rajasthan, where curling vines and tendrils were cut and forged from flat metal. Laser cutting now lets the same flowing patterns be cut cleanly from a single sheet, and lit from the front, they read almost like a drawing on the wall.

This wall light is cut from mild steel in one tall, symmetrical design: a central stem with mirrored C-scrolls and small round discs, like a stylised tree. A cream fabric half-drum shade sits across the middle, close to the wall, so the light glows softly upward and downward over the scrollwork. The steel is painted in an antique gold finish, which looks especially rich against dark or coloured walls.

Finding the right spot

Use a pair either side of a sideboard, a mirror, a bed or a doorway, or a single light as a feature on a narrow wall or at the end of a corridor. Mount it so the shade sits at about 5.5 feet from the floor. It looks its best on deep green, navy, oxblood or panelled walls, where the gold scrollwork stands out. Use warm white (2700K) candle bulbs.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the scrollwork with a soft, dry brush, and freshen the shade with a soft brush. Avoid polish, abrasive pads and chemical cleaners, which will damage the antique gold paint.

This wall light is made to order. It takes two E14 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
