Studio potters of the 1960s and 1970s turned the table lamp into a piece of sculpture: low, rounded forms like river stones, glazed so that the surface looked weathered by time. Metallic glazes that mimic the green patina of old bronze and copper were a favourite, because they catch the light like metal while keeping the warmth of clay.

This lamp takes that idea. A broad, smooth pebble of ceramic sits low on the table, finished in a green metallic patina that shifts in tone as the light moves across it. It rests on a stainless steel mount with a PVD bronze finish, a hard-wearing coating that will not tarnish, and a wide white fabric drum shade above balances its weight and spreads a soft, even light.

Finding the right spot

At 23 inches tall and 20 inches across, it is a low, wide lamp: ideal on a long console, a low side table, a sideboard or a wide bedside table, where it reads as a sculpture as much as a light. It suits rooms with wood, stone and earthy colours. Use a warm white (2700K) E27 bulb.

Care

Switch off and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Wipe the ceramic with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth. Wipe the PVD bronze mount with a soft cloth and freshen the shade with a soft brush. Avoid abrasives and chemical cleaners, which can mark the patina and the PVD finish. Handle the ceramic base with care.

Before you order

This table lamp is made to order. Because the patina is applied by hand, each base varies slightly in tone. It takes one E27 bulb, which is not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
