Baroque wall lights began as candle branches: a carved or cast backplate of scrolls and acanthus leaves, with arms reaching out to hold the flames away from the wall. Coloured glass shades were added once the candles became bulbs, and amber was a favourite, because it turns even a plain bulb into the warm, low light of a flame.

The Baroque Amber keeps that look. A tall backplate of cast scrolls and acanthus leaves sends out two curling arms, each carrying an upturned shade of golden tinted amber glass. The frame is cast in aluminium, which keeps it light and rust-free, and finished in antique brass, darker in the recesses of the leaves.

Finding the right spot

Use a pair either side of a fireplace, a mirror, a painting or a bed, or a row down a corridor or stair. Mount it with the shades about 60 to 66 inches above the floor, or about 30 inches above a console or bedside table. Use warm white (2700K) E27 bulbs so the amber glass glows.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the frame with a soft, dry brush to reach into the leaves. Wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once. Avoid metal polish, abrasives and chemical cleaners, which will strip the antique brass finish.

This wall light is made to order. It takes two E27 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
