In the 1940s and 1950s, French and Italian decorators made the wall light into a piece of brass sculpture. Clean, architectural frames were softened with a single natural detail, a leaf, a frond or a sheaf of wheat, and topped with simple fabric shades, so the light looked tailored rather than ornate. Those mid-century sconces still feel right in a room that mixes the classic with the modern.

The Brass Leaf follows that idea. A geometric antique brass frame holds four arms, each ending in a cast brass leaf that cups the base of a cream fabric cylinder shade. With four lights, it washes a wide stretch of wall, so one sconce can light a feature wall, or a pair can frame a large mirror or a bed.

Finding the right spot

At 31 by 19 inches, the Brass Leaf needs a clear stretch of wall: above a console or sideboard, either side of a large mirror or a fireplace, or as a pair beside a king bed in place of table lamps. Mount it with the shades about 60 to 66 inches above the floor. Use warm white (2700K) E14 bulbs on a dimmer.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the brass with a soft, dry cloth. Freshen the shades with a soft brush. Avoid metal polish, abrasives and chemical cleaners, which will strip the antique finish.

Before you order

This wall light is made to order. It takes four E14 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
