A clear sphere of glass gives a lamp real presence on a table without visual weight: it catches the light from the room by day and the glow of the bulb at night, and lets the wood or stone of the table show through.

This lamp keeps that idea simple. A large sphere of clear glass sits on a round brass foot, with a slim brass stem rising through its centre to the bulb holder. The brass has a satin finish, soft rather than mirror-bright. Above, a black fabric drum shade gives a crisp graphic line and sends the light down onto the table.

Finding the right spot

At 31 inches tall, it suits a side table beside a sofa, a console in an entrance hall or a pair of bedside tables in a larger bedroom. Put it where the glass sphere can be seen from more than one side. On a side table of about 24 inches, the bottom of the shade sits near eye level for someone seated. Use a warm white (2700K) E27 bulb.

Care

Switch off and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Clean the glass with a glass cleaner or a damp cloth and dry it at once. Dust the brass with a soft, dry cloth, and freshen the shade with a soft brush. Avoid abrasives and harsh chemical cleaners on the brass.

This table lamp is made to order. It takes one E27 bulb, which is not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
