Farmhouse lighting grew out of what was at hand: a turned wooden spindle from a staircase, a few lengths of forged iron, and a candle. Country makers in France, England and New England combined them into simple, sturdy sconces, and the honesty of those materials is what keeps the farmhouse style so easy to live with.

The Farmhouse Baluster sets a turned wooden baluster, painted white and distressed for a worn, rustic look, at the centre of the wall plate. Two S-curved steel arms in black paint reach out to hold candle bulbs, and small distressed metal leaves hang below.

Finding the right spot

Use a pair either side of a bed, a mirror or a doorway, in a farmhouse kitchen, a cottage bedroom, a breakfast room or a hill-station home. Mount it with the candles about 60 to 66 inches above the floor. Use clear warm white (2700K) E14 candle bulbs. For indoor use.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the wood and steel with a soft, dry cloth. Keep water off the painted finishes, and avoid chemical cleaners.

Before you order

This wall light is made to order. Because each piece is distressed by hand, no two are exactly alike. It takes two E14 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
