The shaded arm chandelier became popular in English and American homes in the early 20th century, when electric light replaced candles and fabric shades were added to soften the new bulbs. Its simple shape, a central stem with curved arms and small shades, made it a natural fit for dining rooms, bedrooms and studies.

The Drum Luminaire follows that classic form. A straight brass down-rod leads to a central hub, from which five long J-shaped arms swoop downward and curve back up to turned candle cups. Each cup holds a cream fabric shade, and tall, slim spike finials rise above the hub, with a turned drop below. Finished in antique brass, it gives a warm, even, glare-free light.

Finding the right spot

At 21 inches across, it suits a dining table for four, a bedroom, a study or a small living room. Over a table, hang it so the bottom sits about 30–36 inches above the top; elsewhere, keep at least 7 feet of clearance underneath. It works with ceilings of about 8.5 to 10 feet. Use warm white (2700K) candle bulbs.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the brass with a soft, dry cloth, and freshen the shades with a soft brush. The antique finish is meant to deepen with time, so do not polish it back. Avoid abrasive pads and chemical cleaners.

Before you order

This chandelier is made to order, and the drop and shades can be adapted. It takes five E14 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
