Scrolled metalwork has framed gates, balconies and candle stands across Europe and India for centuries. Smiths bent the metal into curls and loops so that a simple support became something decorative, and the look still suits libraries, studies and rooms with old wood and leather.

This lamp follows that tradition. Two long legs curve outward from a round foot with a turned finial, then draw together beneath a cluster of open scrolls and loops that carry the stem up to the shade. It is made in mild steel with a matte black finish, and a cream bell-shaped fabric shade softens the outline and the light.

Finding the right spot

At 60 inches tall with a 14-inch footprint, it suits a spot beside an armchair, a sofa or a bed, or a reading corner in a study or library. It pairs well with dark wood, leather and patterned rugs. Use a warm white (2700K) bulb.

Care

Switch off and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Dust the steel with a soft, dry cloth, using a soft brush for the scrollwork, and keep it dry to protect the finish. Freshen the shade with a soft brush. Avoid abrasive pads and chemical cleaners.
