Kyoto Wall Light

A tall, modern wall light: a slim dark bronze steel frame holding off-white acrylic panels patterned in fine bronze lines, which glow warmly above and below a solid centre band.

Bulbs not included | 2-year warranty

Japanese shoji screens and andon lanterns diffuse light through translucent panels set in a slim dark frame, so a room is lit by a soft glow rather than a bright point. Contemporary designers borrowed that idea for wall lights that work as much as architecture as illumination.

The Kyoto follows that approach. A tall, square-section frame in mild steel, painted a matte dark bronze, holds an upper and a lower panel of off-white acrylic on each face, patterned with fine geometric bronze lines. A solid bronze band divides the two, and when the light is on, both panels glow a warm gold while the pattern stays visible.

What makes the Kyoto distinctive

• Glowing patterned panels: Off-white acrylic with fine bronze-line geometry.
• Up and down glow: Two lit sections above and below a solid centre band.
• Dark bronze frame: A slim, matte frame that outlines the light.
• Tall, slim profile: 36 inches high and only 6 inches wide.
• Made to order in India: From Delhi Brass, a fourth-generation lighting and decorative metalwork company.

Finding the right spot

At 36 inches tall, it suits a living room or lounge wall, either side of a bed or a console, a long corridor, or a hotel or restaurant interior. Mount it so the centre band sits at about eye level, roughly 5.5 to 6 feet from the floor, and space a pair 6 to 8 feet apart along a wall. Use warm white (2700K) bulbs.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the frame with a soft, dry cloth. Wipe the acrylic panels with a soft, slightly damp microfibre cloth; do not use solvents, alcohol or abrasive cleaners, which can cloud or scratch the acrylic.
