Laurel Wreath Double Shade Sconce

A grand double wall light in antique brass: a laurel wreath and ribbon bow backplate with a floral rosette, and two curved arms carrying fabric drum shades.

Bulbs not included | 2-year warranty

The laurel wreath crowned victors in ancient Rome, and Napoleon took it as his own. In the French Empire style it became a favourite ornament, cast in gilt bronze on clocks, mirrors and candle branches, often tied with a ribbon bow. It is a symbol of honour that still gives a room a quiet sense of occasion.

The Laurel Wreath wall light uses it in full. A tall brass backplate is crowned with a ribbon bow and a laurel wreath around a floral rosette, and two curved arms reach out to hold cream fabric drum shades. The brass has an antique finish, darker in the leaves.

What makes the Laurel Wreath distinctive

• Laurel and ribbon: A laurel wreath and ribbon bow in the French Empire manner.
• Floral rosette: A rosette at the centre of the wreath.
• Two fabric shades: Cream drum shades on curved arms.
• Made to order in India: From Delhi Brass, a fourth-generation lighting and decorative metalwork company.

Finding the right spot

Use a pair either side of a fireplace, a large mirror, a portrait or a bed, in a drawing room, dining room or entrance hall. Mount it with the shades about 60 to 66 inches above the floor. Use warm white (2700K) E14 bulbs.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the brass with a soft, dry brush to reach into the leaves. Freshen the shades with a soft brush. Avoid metal polish, abrasives and chemical cleaners, which will strip the antique finish.
