Shakha means branch, and this wall light is exactly that: slender stems of brass, cast so that the texture of real tree branches is preserved, with ridged bark, knots, nodes and small broken-off twigs. A main stem rises the full height of the light and forks at the top, a second branch crosses it on a diagonal, and a third curls out low down. Five opal glass globes sit at the tips like ripe fruit.

The composition is deliberately asymmetric and leans gently to the right, the way a branch grows towards light. Switched off, it reads as a piece of sculpture on the wall, the antique finish darker in the crevices of the bark and warmer on its raised ridges. Switched on, the five globes glow softly and throw a tracery of branch shadows across the wall.

Finding the right spot

Give Shakha a stretch of plain wall of its own: above a console or bench in an entrance, on a stair landing, or beside a bed in place of artwork. Mount it with its centre at about 160 cm from the floor, or with the lowest branch tip 25 to 30 cm above a console. Because the branches lean to the right, leave a little open wall on that side. For the softest glow, use warm white (2700K to 3000K) E14 LED bulbs.

Care

Switch off at the mains before cleaning. Dust the brass with a soft, dry cloth, and wipe the glass globes with a barely damp cloth once they are cool. Avoid metal polish, abrasives and chemical cleaners, which will strip the antique finish.

Shakha is made to order and priced per light. It takes five E14 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days. Delivery within India typically takes a further 4–6 days; international transit is quoted for the destination.
