Sunburst Double Shade Sconce

A sculptural double wall light: a full sunburst of pointed brass rays in a bronze finish, with two curved arms carrying pleated white drum shades.

Bulbs not included | 2-year warranty

The sunburst is the emblem of Louis XIV, the Sun King, who set it over the doors and mirrors of Versailles. It returned in the 1950s and 1960s, when French and Italian designers made gilt and brass sunburst mirrors, clocks and sconces, and it has never quite left the decorator's vocabulary since.

The Sunburst wall light puts that emblem at the centre. A round boss is ringed with long and short pointed rays in brass, and two curved arms reach out from it to hold pleated white drum shades. The brass has a bronze finish, so the rays read as a soft, dark silhouette by day and catch the light at their tips by night.

What makes the Sunburst distinctive

• Sunburst backplate: A full ring of pointed brass rays, sculptural even when unlit.
• Two pleated shades: Pleated white drum shades on two curved arms.
• Bronze finish: A dark, quiet finish on brass.
• Made to order in India: From Delhi Brass, a fourth-generation lighting and decorative metalwork company.

Finding the right spot

Use it as a single focal point on a feature wall, above a console or a sideboard, or as a pair either side of a mirror or a bed. Give it a clear stretch of wall so the rays can be seen. Mount it with the centre about 60 to 66 inches above the floor. It takes G9 capsule bulbs; use warm white (2700K) LED G9 bulbs.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the rays with a soft, dry brush. Freshen the shades with a soft brush. Avoid metal polish, abrasives and chemical cleaners, which will strip the bronze finish.

Before you order

This wall light is made to order. It takes two G9 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
