Turned Wood Sphere Table Lamp

A warm, tactile table lamp: a large turned wooden sphere showing its natural grain, under a black fabric drum shade.

Bulb not included | 2-year warranty

Wood turning is one of the oldest crafts in the world. A block of timber is spun on a lathe and shaped by hand with chisels, and the grain shows differently on every piece. Turned wooden bowls, vessels and finials have been made this way for centuries, and the same craft works beautifully for a lamp base.

This lamp starts with a full wooden sphere, 13 inches across, turned so that the grain wraps around its curve. A black fabric drum shade sits on top, and the contrast between the warm wood and the dark shade gives the lamp a grounded, modern look.

What makes the Turned Wood Sphere distinctive

• Turned wooden sphere: A 13-inch round base shaped on a lathe.
• Natural grain: Every piece shows its own pattern in the wood.
• Black drum shade: A dark fabric shade that contrasts with the warm wood.
• Compact height: At 24 inches, it suits bedside and side tables.
• Made to order in India: From Delhi Brass, a fourth-generation lighting and decorative metalwork company.

Finding the right spot

At 24 inches tall, it suits a bedside table, a side table beside a sofa, or a desk or shelf in a study. It sits well with leather, linen and other natural materials. The black shade sends most of the light down and out of the bottom, which makes it a good reading lamp. Use a warm white (2700K) bulb.

Care

Switch off and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Dust the wood with a soft, dry cloth and keep it away from water and direct sun. Freshen the shade with a soft brush. Avoid chemical cleaners.
