In eighteenth-century France the hunt was the great pastime of the court, and its emblems turned up everywhere, from tapestries to door handles. Under Louis XVI, Parisian bronze makers produced a celebrated wall light, the applique aux cors de chasse, with candle arms shaped as coiled French hunting horns hung from a neoclassical trophy of ribbons, leaves and tassels.

The Chasse Single is the one-light version of our Chasse Double Wall Light. A tied ribbon bow tops a reeded staff that leads down to a wreath of oak leaves and acorns around a beaded oval medallion, with tasselled cords falling below. From a fluted cup at the centre, a single hunting horn coils into a full ring, its bell flaring into a leafy acanthus mouth, while its tube rises straight up as the candle stem. A cream bell shade with a scalloped hem, fine dark seams and braided gimp trim sits on top. The antique finish settles darker into the leaves and folds of the casting.

Finding the right spot

The Chasse Single is slim enough for narrow walls. Hang a pair either side of a fireplace, a painting or a mirror, run a series along a corridor or staircase, or fix one beside a reading chair or a bed. Mount it with its centre about 60 to 66 inches above the floor, or level with the middle of the painting or mirror it frames. Use a warm white (2700K) E14 candle LED bulb for a soft glow through the shade.

Care

Switch off and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Dust the brass with a soft, dry brush to reach into the leaves and tassels. Freshen the shade with a soft brush. Avoid metal polish, abrasives and chemical cleaners, which will strip the antique finish.

This wall light is made to order and priced per piece. It takes one E14 bulb, which is not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
