Hampton Wall Lantern

A compact coach lantern for a front door or porch: a matte black frame with clear glass panes, a hooked top and a warm antique-brass candle holder inside.

Bulb not included | 2-year warranty

The coach lantern takes its shape from the lamps once fixed to the sides of horse-drawn carriages and the gateposts of English country houses: a slim glazed box with a pitched roof and a hook to carry or hang it. Its simple, honest form still looks right beside almost any front door.

The Hampton is a neat, modern take on it. A tall rectangular frame in mild steel, painted matte black, holds four clear glass panes under a stepped roof, with a curved hook bar arching over the top and small ball finials at the corners. Inside, a candle-style bulb sits in an antique-finish brass holder, which glows warmly through the glass when lit.

What makes the Hampton distinctive

• Antique brass holder: A warm brass detail against the matte black frame.
• Compact size: 14 inches tall, made for doorways, porches and pillars.
• Made to order in India: From Delhi Brass, a fourth-generation lighting and decorative metalwork company.

Finding the right spot

At 14 inches tall, it suits a pair either side of a front door, a porch or balcony wall, a gate pillar, a garage or a covered terrace. Mount it with its centre about 5.5 to 6 feet above the floor, and space several along a long wall about 6 to 8 feet apart. Indoors, it works in a hallway or a staircase. Use a warm white (2700K) candle filament bulb.

Care

Switch off and let the bulb cool before cleaning. Wipe the frame with a soft, damp cloth and clean the glass gently, then dry. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemical cleaners. The lantern suits covered and semi-covered outdoor positions; for a fully exposed wall, ask us about sealed fittings before ordering.
