Qandeel Pendant Light

An etched glass globe in an embossed brass crown, glowing like a lantern.

Bulbs not included | 2-year warranty

Qandeel is the Urdu and Persian word for a hanging lamp or lantern, and this light carries that lineage. A clear glass globe, wrapped around its middle with a band of frosted roses and leafy sprays, hangs from a stepped brass crown worked with leaves, flutes and ribbing. Above it, a short stem of turned brass beads rises to a ceiling canopy embossed with a lotus star. Below, a ribbed brass dish ends in a turned finial.

Switched on, three bulbs inside the globe light up the frosted flowers so they glow against the clear glass, and a soft pattern of the motifs falls on the walls and ceiling around it.

What makes Qandeel distinctive

• Floral glass: A wide band of frosted roses and leaves on clear glass, which lights up when the lamp is on.
• Embossed brass crown and canopy: Layered bands of leaves, flutes and ribbing, antiqued so the detail stands out.
• A compact drop: A short beaded brass stem instead of a chain keeps the lantern close to the ceiling, so it suits foyers, corridors and rooms with standard ceiling heights.
• Made to order in India: From Delhi Brass, a fourth-generation lighting and decorative metalwork company.

Finding the right spot

Qandeel works as a single statement light in a foyer, along a corridor or above a round centre table, or as a row of two or three down a long passage. In walkways, leave at least 2.1 m (7 ft) of clearance below the finial. Over a table, hang it so the finial sits about 75 to 90 cm above the tabletop. For the softest glow, use G9 LED bulbs in warm white (2700K to 3000K).

Care

Switch off at the mains and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Dust the brass with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Clean the glass with a soft cloth lightly dampened with mild glass cleaner, applied to the cloth rather than sprayed on, and avoid abrasive pads on the frosted band. Avoid metal polish and chemical cleaners on the brass, which will strip the antique finish.

Before you order

Qandeel is made to order. It takes three G9 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
