Twin-lantern lamp posts lined the squares, carriage drives and park avenues of Regency and Victorian Britain, standing tall enough to light a whole driveway or gateway. The same cast-metal designs were carried to the bungalows, clubs and cantonments of colonial India, where they still mark the entrance to many older homes.

The Regency follows that classic form at full height. A slender round pole with turned collars and knops rises to a square column cap with a finial. Across the top runs a crossbar decorated with openwork scrolls and ball-and-spike finials, and from each end hangs a six-sided lantern with a domed roof, frosted glass panes and a pointed drop. It is made in rust-free aluminium and powder coated in a textured matte black for outdoor use.

Finding the right spot

At about 8 feet 3 inches tall, it suits the entrance of a driveway, either side of a main gate, the edge of a lawn or a large courtyard. Along a long drive, space posts about 20 to 25 feet apart. For a lower garden path, the 79-inch Victorian Twin Lantern Pole Light may suit better. Fix it to a concrete footing or paved surface, and have the cable run underground by an electrician. Use warm white (2700K) bulbs suitable for outdoor fittings.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Wipe the pole and lanterns with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and rain marks, and clean the glass gently. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage the powder coat.

This lamp post is made to order. It takes two E27 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
