Cast-metal lamp posts with twin lanterns lined the streets, parks and promenades of Victorian London, and the same designs travelled to the cantonments, Mall Roads and hill stations of colonial India. Their scrolled arms and lantern heads still give a garden or driveway an instant sense of arrival.

This pole light follows that tradition in a size made for a home. A slim round pole with turned collars rises to a square column, from which two shepherd's-crook arms curve out on either side. Each holds a lantern with a tapered pagoda roof, frosted white panels and a black openwork pattern of curving leaves, finished with a pointed drop. It is made in aluminium, which does not rust, and powder coated in a textured matte black for outdoor use.

Finding the right spot

At about 6.5 feet tall, it suits a garden path, the edge of a driveway, either side of a gate, a lawn or a courtyard. Space a row of posts about 15 to 20 feet apart along a long path or drive. Fix it to a concrete footing or paved surface, and have the cable run underground by an electrician. Use warm white (2700K) bulbs suitable for outdoor fittings.

Care

Switch off and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Wipe the pole and lanterns with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and rain marks, and clean the panels gently. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage the powder coat.

Before you order

This pole light is made to order. It takes two E27 bulbs, which are not included, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Production takes 10–14 days, followed by 4–6 days for delivery.
